The Legroulx family has been traced back to Maurice Gouriau and his wife Jeanne Rigau of Brittany, France. Theie son, Jean Baptiste Gouriou born in 1656, immigrated to Quebec. He was married in Lachine, to Marie Louise Chaudillon on 2 June 1701. We know he was a sergeant in the company of Blainville and was station in St Clair at Le Détroit du Lac Érié in 1706 with his famly They were back in Montréal by about 1711 and by 1726, Louise had given birth to ten children Jean died in 1738 in Montréal, where he was buried in the paupers cemetery. His wife did not die until 1758, said to be 78, and also buried in Montréal.
Their son Jean Baptiste Gouriou was born in Montreal on August 11, 1721. He married in Montreal to Marie Elizabeth Houe on May, 29, 1747. Their son Alexis Gruau, a farmer, was born in Montreal on August 5, 1755
Alexis Gruau married Marie Louise Martin dit St. Jean in Les Cedres, Quebec. Their son Alexis Groulx, a laborer, was born on November 23, 1792 in Les Cedres,
Alexis Gruau married Angelique Lalonde on February 21, 1814 in Les Cedres. Their son Louis Groulx, a mason, was born in St. Zotique, Quebec, is our great, great granfather
